Do you end up paying a ton of capital gains taxes when you day trade?

Question by Jerry: Do you end up paying a ton of capital gains taxes when you day trade?
Do you end up having to pay a lot of taxes on capital gains? Or is it just whatever capital gains that you made for that year in total to be taxed?

I read a couple articles that say do not day trade because of taxes. I dunno about this because I beleive you are taxed at a percentage. Only thing im worried about is probably the commissions you pay per trade might get expensive.
Can I get an answer that speaks in plain English?

Only if you make a ton of profits. You pay tax on your profits.

do you need a special account to day trade?

Question by Fejwofje: do you need a special account to day trade?
If i have a regular account with $ 6000 in it will I be able to trade in the same day more than 3 times in 5 business days? If I can’t then that is not fair because I need to make money with day trading right now. What is the point of these random sec regulations. And will i need to get more money to open up a day trader’s account.

What are the best stocks to day trade?

Question by Njbrown113: What are the best stocks to day trade?
I typically trade stocks that are $ 15 to $ 30. Average 10 day volume of 5 million shares or more. Also have pretty good intra day price swings. I really just want to know what are some good stocks to day trade, or what other criteria day traders use to pick stocks. I am NOT interested in penny stocks.

Answer by John S
In general, you want select the most liquid and most votile stocks for day trading.

Financials are the most watched and most heavily traded sector of the market and are consistantly daily volume learders on the NYSE. Day traders love them because they’re much more volatile than other large cap stocks, and they’re extremely liquid.

Large cap financials are also generally considered bellwethers of the market, as they often lead market rallies and crashes. Some examples include BAC, C, GS, MS, and JPM.

Besides financials, large cap high growth tech stocks are also widely used for trading, such as AAPL, AMZN, RIMM, GOOG, BIDU, etc., again because they’re very volatile.

Also, companies in the spotlight are popular among day traders. These days, for example, BP, which is traded well over 10 times its historic daily volume since the oil spill happened.

And finally, index ETFs, SPY, QQQQ, XLF, EEM; commodity ETFs, GLD, USO; and leveraged ETFs, such as FAS. Right now, FAS has an implied volatility of over 95% (compared to about 27% for the S&P 500), you can see why some day traders love it.

NetPicks Announces Powerful Online Swing Trading System

Irving, TX (PRWEB) August 17, 2011

NetPicks has announced a groundbreaking new day trading system that incorporates exactness, power and flexibility to allow traders to achieve powerful results in minimal time: The Keltner Bells. The trading strategy combines the quickness of swing trading with the precision of Keltner Channel indicators to get traders winning as soon as they can.

NetPicks has been at the forefront of online day trading, developing forex trading strategies since 1996. The company specializes in investment education for active day and swing traders for a wide variety of markets including forex, futures, options, stocks, bonds, and more. While NetPicks already supports a large membership that subscribe to its intraday day trading system, The Seven Summits Trader, Keltner Bells is a brand new swing trading system targeted at traders who want to maximize their trading sessions with quickness and ease.

?We have seen great achievements and satisfaction from our previous trading strategies, and we see in the forex markets an opportunity to extend that success through swing trading,? says Mark Soberman, Founder and Developer for NetPicks. ?Traders today want strategies that will work on their time, that can achieve powerful gains, and that aren?t complicated to implement. With Keltner Bells, NetPicks meets all of these needs.?

The Keltner Bells system uses the flexibility of swing trading to maximize traders? time. It is focused on only requiring 10 minutes out of your day to trade. While in swing trading, action is known to be sporadic, with this system, trade frequency is steady: trade set-ups occur during the day and night, so the trader can take the trades that fit his or her schedule, rather than relying on evening New York time, for example. Additionally, the system works across multiple forex pairs, not limiting you a single set up.

Keltner Bells gets its name from its incorporation of the Keltner Channels, powerful trade indicators. These indicators are used to measure extremes in the market. The Keltner Bells applies simple but powerful rules to set-up dynamic trades, and filter out only but the best trades. What sets the Ketlner Bells system apart is in the way the market is measured. Rather than use dated time interval charts, the strategy relies on Renko and range bars to get a unique view of market action.

The developers at NetPicks poured countless hours of research and study into creating a system that is fast, accurate, simple, and affordable, and are excited to release Keltner Bells to the public.

Q&A: Can I pattern day trade in margin with only cash?

Question by Cheryl: Can I pattern day trade in margin with only cash?
I want to avoid the 3 day settlement period. If I keep a minimum of $ 25,000 in a margin account, can I pattern day trade in cash only? Would I be able to buy and sell, in that order, a few times a day?

Best answer:

Answer by stock_chartman
Yes, just because you have a day trading account, doesn’ t mean you have to use the full day trading buying power afforded to you. However, you will need to maintain the 25k level. One small loss and you’ll be required to put more money in to meet that requirement. That can enter into your thought process. So I’d suggest starting with a bit more cash.

We run a day trading chat room if you’re interested in joining a trading community and best yet, it’s complimentary to subscribers of any of our services. I’m not trying to sell you here, but there’s a large learning curve for day trading and it’s best not to do it alone – isolation is very dangerous. Join a group and you can bounce your ideas off others and learn from them as well.

If you have any further questions, feel free to email me at jay@stockbarometer.com or visit our site. We offer $ 1 4-week trials, and you’ll gain access to our chat room during this period to try it out for yourself.

I’m guessing you have not been trading that long. Day trading is easy when the market keeps going up. The market is due for a minor correction and you will probably lose most of your money.
